Hey y'all, I feed pigs in north central Illinois about ten miles south of I-80 half way between Iowa and Indiana. It more of a hobby for me, I feed 12-14 barrows and guilts outside every year in a feedlot. I try and raise healthy and happy hogs to put meat on the tables of family and friends. I like Durocs the best but have had good luck with Yorkshires and York/Duroc and York/hamp crosses. I did t have much luck with Berkshire and am not sure what all the hipe is about em. I row crop 1000 acres with my 76 year old grandpa who refuses to retire and give up the reigns and I do carpenter work and concrete work in the summers and winters. I', not exactly a seasoned vet when it comes to hogs but hope to contribute as well as learn what I can. Is this a new forum/site?

Welcome to the site. You are the first person I've met with a farm our size. We too have 1,000 acres. In our case it is mostly forest as we're in northern New England. We have 70 acres in pasture where we do pastured pigs (~400 with about 60 breeders). We do sustainable timber on the rest as well as having a large maple sugaring bush.
